I'm a candid, transparent OCD therapist. I'll meet you where you're at in your journey of recovery. You are the expert on your life; although I'm an expert in my field, it's our teamwork that will lead to change. Therapy will proceed at your pace. Building trust is a part of the process, and it's OK to work on that in session so you feel safe. I also focus on treating major depressive disorder and PTSD, using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) respectively.

My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I've struggled with anxiety and depression, and my family has a history of it, too. I also have ADHD. I'm aware of how mental health conditions can affect people and impact their ability to feel confident in themselves, and to feel confident that they can make a change in their life, which can make it hard to access therapy in the first place. I make sure that I'm very conscientious about these challenges, while making sure we stick to the goals.
How my life has shaped my approach to therapy
At the age of 9, I moved to Austria for three years and had to learn the language, then moved to Texas on the southern border, where I had to acclimate to the culture. I've worked with people from military backgrounds, people who are refugees, and people from many different cultures. I understand how culture intersects with the way we think and even speak, and how what we say can have multiple meanings. I take what people say and ask, what does that mean to you? What is your personal experience with it?
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
I will not beat around the bush. I'm very direct. I make sure it's an ongoing dialog, and that if you have questions, you can challenge me on things so I can clarify. While I have the experience, as far as therapy goes, you have the insight into your life, and that's how we work together to achieve your recovery.
Why our members love working with Ian
M.P.
Ian is one of, if not the best, therapist I have ever worked with. He’s positive, persistent, and highly motivating. He is very skilled at what he does but approaches his work with the utmost empathy and compassion. I am beyond grateful to him for helping me regain control of my life. He has made this challenging therapy work manageable. I appreciate his encouragement when I need it and the kindness to help me keep going when it felt impossible. Again, I am eternally grateful to him for guiding me through one of the hardest things I have ever done.
